Choosing the Right Test

The type of drug test depends on what you need to demonstrate.

  • Current Impairment: To determine if someone is currently impaired, a blood test is often ideal. However, blood tests are typically reserved for criminal investigations due to their invasive nature, as less invasive options are available.

  • Workplace Testing: For workplaces, an oral fluid test is commonly used, as it detects drug use within the past 4–20 hours. This helps identify if an employee may be under the influence while at work.

  • Legal Testing: In legal situations, you’ll generally opt for urine testing, which provides a 4-day history, or hair testing, which can offer insight into drug use over approximately 90 days.

Choosing the correct test is essential for accurate and relevant results tailored to your needs.

Understanding Test Result Timelines

We know waiting for test results can be stressful. However, contacting collection centers or our team will not expedite the lab or interpretation processes. In fact, handling these inquiries may delay issuing results.

  • Breath Alcohol and Immunoassay Tests: These results are nearly instant, with formal documentation typically available within 24 hours.

  • Urine and Oral Fluid (LC/MS Confirmatory Testing): The turnaround time for these lab-based tests is approximately 3 business days, from collection to result availability.

  • Blood Tests (including Carbohydrate-deficient Transferrin/CDT): Expect a turnaround time of about 4 business days.

  • Hair Testing: Results usually arrive within a week; however, during peak times, processing may take up to 2 weeks from the collection date.

We appreciate your patience and assure you that results will be provided as soon as they are available.
